Scion’s 2014 tC revealed at NY show

Scion revealed its new sportier 2014 tC coupe at the New York auto show. Designed with look-at-me aggressive styling, the new 2014 tC is sure to leave the showroom floor quick once it arrives in June.

Exterior Styling:

The exterior of the tC is definitely more sporty, with new aggressive headlamps and an all new hood that reaches toward the new more open grille. The bigger opening gives more room for the new embedded tC logo. On the sides of the grille are LED accent lighting strips.

In the rear of the tC is the black-out valance that resembles the FR-S with a lower-center trim piece and lower perimeter reflectors. Above are LED tail lamps that move away from the FR-S style with a more boxy shape.

Finishing off the exterior styling are 18-inch alloy wheels that are some of the best looking features of the car. They come standard in a dark grey finish and machined-spoke surfaces.

Interior Styling:

Although not much is said in terms of any significant changes for interior trim or materials, besides premium materials and lighter color fabric on the seats and headliner, there are though, quite a few improvements that would make any Scion fan run to the nearest dealer.

Standard in the tC will be the all-new Scion Standard Display Audio with a 6.1-inch LCD touchscreen. Appearing in all 2014 Scion models, the system will come equipped with Bluetooth and HD Radio as well as steering wheel-mounted controls. According to Scion, they are the first non-luxury brand in the industry to feature this type of standard system.

But if just going with the standard system won’t be enough for the average buyer, Scion will also have available a BeSpoke Premium Audio system with Aha (30,000 free audio stations including Scions own station), including navigation, and smart phone compatibility (connected through Aha).

Other added features are auto-off headlamps and an auto-up/down driver’s window.

Engine specs and improvements:

The tC will come equipped with a 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine making 179 horsepower. Matted with either a six-speed manual or the updated six-speed automatic, the newly-updated six-speed automatic changes both up and downshifts almost twice as fast as the previous generation tC. To further sell the six-speed automatic is the Dynamic Rev Management, borrowed from the FR-S, which matches the revs to the gear ratio on downshifts.

Other improved features on the tC are mods to the stabilizer bar hardware, shock absorber optimization, and spot welds (increase body rigidity). Also making the car more fun to drive is the return of electronic power steering.

If you still can’t get enough of the 2014 Scion tC before its June dealership arrival, then check out this cool video:
