Scion Makes Podium at Oregon Trail Rally

Team pushes through blown head gasket

The third Rally America event of the season saw three dirt kicking days at the Oregon Trail Rally, which was an up-and-down race for the Scion xD driven by Rifat Sungkar/ Marshall Clarke.

Starting on Friday at the Portland International Speedway, the team experienced some issues, which landed them in fifth place in their class. Saturday and Sunday's races relocated to the trails of Mt. Hood, where the dry, dusty conditions made things more difficult. Pushing through, the team made it up as far as second place in their class during Saturday's action.

The final day brought larger, wider and longer stages that favored the xD. But luck was not on their side as electrical issues caused the fans and cooling to work inefficiently, overheating the engine. The end result was a blown head gasket that affected performance. Despite the issues, the team was able to place third overall.
