Over the weekend, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson uploaded a video to his Instagram account, showing off new cars that will be featured in the latest installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, "Furious 8." Earlier this year, Vin Diesel took to Facebook to tease a poster that officially revealed the April 14, 2017 release date and the caption, "New Roads Ahead," which may signal a new direction for the film.
The Rock starts the video by announcing that it's opening weekend for his new movie, "Central Intelligence," and thanking fans for their support and the standing ovations from the East Coast audience. But what makes this clip interesting is that The Rock is on set for "Furious 8," and his backdrop is the selection of vehicles that will be featured in the new film.
"So we have a $2 million prototype Nissan, we have the fastest viper in the world, we have an O.G. Biscayne, that's my style. We got Lamborghinis here, we got Ferraris hanging up, but who gives a shit, because I don't' fit in these cars anyway," said The Rock while walking around the set garage.
That Nissan prototype, of course, is the IDx concept from 2013. The compact, rear-drive sporty coupe was said to preview a production rival to the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86, but last we heard plans for such a model had been shelved. Though that makes us wonder what the concept is doing on the set of the new Fast and Furious film, there's no denying we'd love to see it in action on the big screen.
