In '90s, GM, Toyota and Honda announced electrical vehicles (EV); GM EV1, Toyota RAV4 EV, and Honda EV Plus. GM and Honda lease electrical vehicles. Toyota was selling RAV4 EV. Some people still own Toyota RAV4EV now but nobody has GM EV1 and Honda EV Plus because GM and Honda stop to lease in 2003. EV1 was very popular in the world because I guess EV1 was good at that time in the world. But GM stop to developelectronic vehicles and scrapped all of EV1.

Now EV is in the spotlight; Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt, Tesla Roadster etc. All of electronic vehicles are still expensive. In Japan, we can buy Mitsubishi i-MiEV or Nissan Leaf with about $30,000 USD (Japanese government pay subsidy for buying EV). I think many people have bad image for electronic vehicles because range is short. Mitsubishi and Nissan's electronic vehicles range is about 160km (100miles) per one charge. I think weekday for going to the office is okay. But that is not enough. It is hard to develop the high-performance battery and charging time is too long. That's why we can't drive electronic vehicles for going too far.

Some companies developed new system for EV. One of new system is exchange battery system. That is share the battery for all of EV owners and you can change the battery at the gas stations. Changing battery time is about 10 minutes. That is shorter than charging battery time. But this situation is same as cell phone batteries. Battery shape is different with all of cell phone. It is hard to decide same battery for all of EV companies.

Another system is coil charger system. That is put the coil on the street and put another coil under the EV's chassis. When EV run over the coil on the street, EV's coil pick up electricity from the coil under the street and charging EV's battery. If there would be the coil under the road of freeway, EV can keep on charging battery when EV run on the freeway and driver don't need to worry about battery.

Many people talk about future is cars. EV? Fuel cell? Hybrid? Diesel? I am not sure which car is future of cars. Fact is Tesla Roadster is faster than a expensive sport car in LA. Tetsu www.myspace.com/oted15
