The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is slated to hit showrooms this summer but Rhys Millen has been hard at work converted one of the sharp hatchbacks into a dedicated U.S. Rallycross competitor. The production Veloster was stripped to bare metal and the chassis was stitch welded for added structural rigidity then Rhys Millen Racing (RMR) replicated the car’s body panels in carbon-Kevlar. The racer tips the scales at 2,656 pounds. Added thrust for the Hyundai 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine comes complements of an HKS ball bearing turbo upgrade and a host of other power and safety mods. The powerplant is backed by a tried-and-proven X-Trac six-speed sequential transmission. Consequently, the RMR Red Bull Hyundai Veloster rally car pumps out a prodigious 500 horsepower and 600 lbs-ft. of torque.
