We've known for a while that the Aston Martin Valkyrie will have a hybrid powertrain. Aston Martin has been surprisingly open about the fact that the engine will be a 6.5-liter V-12 that makes an even 1,000 hp at 10,500 rpm and redlines at 11,100 rpm. But today, the British automaker announced that the hybrid system will add another 160 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque, bringing the system total to 1,160 hp and 664 lb-ft.
While Aston Martin partnered with Cosworth to develop the engine, the electric motor comes from a company called Integral Powertrain Ltd. As for the battery pack, that came from Rimac, a Croatian supercar company. Red Bull Advanced Technologies was then tasked with using its Formula 1 experience to make sure the engine, motor, and battery system all worked together.
The Red Bull team is also part of the reason the engine and transmission are part of the vehicle structure. By placing mounting points for the rear suspension to the transmission, Aston says it was able to improve structural rigidity and reduce weight.
"Aston Martin Valkyrie is set to be the ultimate hypercar in the automotive world and these performance figures underline that statement. Red Bull Advanced Technologies, Cosworth, Rimac and Integral Powertrain Ltd. have been fantastic partners in the development of this powertrain, ensuring that we have already created a hybrid system that is emissions-compliant and ready to begin fitting to our first physical prototypes," said David King, Aston Martin's head of special vehicle operations, in a statement.
