Toyota 86 Kids Travel Case

Pull-along luggage featured in Akea’s booth at Tokyo Auto Salon 2016.

Jan 12, 2016

It’s all about the next generation, and gettin’ the kiddos stoked on car culture, and what better way to do that than completely immersing them in everything automobile? The 86 Carry Case, based on the Toyota 86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ RWD sport coupe – falls into the category of indispensible junior car guy minutiae that we wish we had when we were younglings, fashionable molded plastic for the jet setting tyke.

Each one features six wheels, a retractable metal carry handle, and a separate tether for pulling along the case; it also has elasticized tie-down straps on the inside, a built-in pocket, and two safety locks. Recommended for ages three and up, it’s small enough to fit in an airplane’s overhead carry-on compartment, and the 86 version comes in white, black, red, and orange. From the looks of it, there are also Lamborghini Huracan and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 iterations of the luggage.

As for who makes and sells the cases, that’s a little unclear to us. Via its Facebook page, we know Akea will have the 86 luggage at its 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) booth come January 15 to 17, but we couldn’t find any additional info on them anywhere else. A company called Autodrive sells the Lambo and Chevy under the “Riderz” brand, which may or may not be also known as Ridaz,” but there was no evidence of the 86 case anywhere. Bottom line: if you’re even remotely near TAS this weekend, might as well pop in and pick up your own 86 luggage – you know, “for the kids.”
