Track-Only McLaren 570S GT4, Sprint Revealed

GT4 will race in the British GT Championship

McLaren has officially taken the wraps off the newest variants of the 570S, the 570S GT4 and 570S Sprint. Both are essentially track-ready versions of the standard 570S, with the GT4 homologated for competition in the British GT Championship and the Sprint developed as an unrestricted track-day model. The Black Bull Ecurie Ecosse customer racing team will compete with the GT4 in the British GT Championship's full nine-round calendar.

Based on the carbon fiber Monocell chassis that underpins all of McLaren's Sport Series vehicles, the GT4 features a wider body, a GT4-spec aero package, Pirelli racing slicks, magnesium alloy wheels, and a rear wing for improved downforce. Powering the 570S GT4 is a twin-turbocharged V-8 that's been adapted for racing use. In the standard 570S, the engine produces 562 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque and puts its power down through the rear wheels via a seven-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission. McLaren doesn't list output for the 570S GT4, but expect power to be in line with GT4 regulations.

Unlike the GT4, the McLaren 570S Sprint is a hardcore track car not built to any one spec. The automaker said details on this car will be released in the coming weeks, but that the Sprint will be available with all of the upgrades found on the GT4. McLaren also announced that Ansar Ali will be joining as the brand's Motorsport Director. "I am extremely pleased to welcome Ansar to McLaren Automotive in such a key role," said Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren Automotive, in a release. "Motorsport is part of the lifeblood of the McLaren brand, and this role will be key to our long-term plans as we continue to expand the product range and customer-appeal around the world."

The GT4 will be available to customer racing teams for the 2017 season starting at 159,900 ($225,500 U.S. at today's exchange rates). Pricing and availability for the 570S Sprint will be announced at a later date.
