Get Some Old-School Vibes from these Datsun Trucks
1971 & '72 Datsun 521 - Pickup Lines
Datsun Skyline, 240Z, & Sunny - Triple Threat

The staggered fitment on Mohammed Alsharshani's 1971 Datsun 1300 pickup truck is, indeed, pretty staggering, and probably this project's most eye-popping element - 2.5 inches of width distinguishing the front wheels from the rears. The foursome of extremely rare rims (we'll get to those in a minute) are all 15s, helping to hide the severe difference in wideness to a certain degree - but that's still a setup bordering on freakish. The 521 mini truck is set up kinda like a fendered Formula 1 car, with a bed.

Of course, the Pandem widebody kit the pickup is clad in also helps to conceal the truth. The body collection comes with a front lip, fender flares, side skirts, and rear bottom skirts, and the combo of running gear and overfenders is a thing of pure exquisiteness - paired here perfectly for a flush look most can appreciate. The 1300 is the first in Thailand with the TRA Kyoto treatment.

But if we're being straight, probably the most amazing part of the build are the super-rare RS Watanabe Gotti wheels at the four corners, a model that comes with a pretty interesting and circuitous tale. You see, a similar looking 4-spoke rim with a 4-nut "bead-lock" was made in very limited amounts by Japanese company Kobe Seiko for Nissan's works Group 4 rally racing effort (in magnesium, no less) with the homologation-special 240ZR, an orange, JDM-only version of the S30 Fairlady Z that came equipped with the same twin-cam 2.0L inline-6 S20 that went in the KPGC10 Skyline 2000GT-R.

The wheels were never actually sold to the public, and since they were true mags you probably wouldn't want to run them now, decades later, anyway. But after disappearing for a generation, RS Watanabe somehow got its hands on the original molds for the wheels and set about recreating them, albeit with newer material but again in extremely limited numbers. The Gottis are, in fact, made to order, and can take up to a year or longer to deliver, in part because they have to be smoothed by hand after being cast because the molds are so old and produce a very rough finish.

These Gottis work perfectly on Mohammed's 1300, 9 inches wide in front and an amazing 11.5 inches wide in back(!) The Watanabes are shod in tastefully stretched Pirelli P7 Corsa Classics (that's a 305 in the rear, son), and with the period-correct turquoise tying everything together, we can't get over how beautifully everything came together in the finished product.
