At first glance, Andrew Moore's '07 Si looks untouched, save for a wheel change. So how was it possible for a heavier, newer, aerodynamically stock car to beat the pants off lighter, more modified cars? The key to success isn't having the most parts, it's having the right parts where they count. But having insider help doesn't hurt either.
Andrew is an employee of Full Race, a company known the world over for making some of the sickest and most powerful turbo kits in the world. Being that Andrew helps prototype kits for the company, it was a small task for him to piece together his kit. On top of the quality normally associated with Full Race kits, Andrew took his personal setup over the top by porting both sides of the turbo housing along with the turbo manifold, downpipe, intake manifold and throttle-body. The resulting setup required only modest internal modifications and was good for 422.37hp on our dyno test.
Leroy, Andrew's dad, runs a shop called Flat Out Motorsports that specializes in BMW tuning and chassis fabrication. Needless to say aligning Andrew's car was a walk in the park compared to Flat Out's day-to-day operations. As far as chassis and brakes are concerned the setup is equally as simple and equally as potent. A Wilwood caliper combination was sorted for the car by Fastbrakes and a custom built set of coilovers were installed from Progress. The only other modifications done underneath the car were a set of Skunk2 rear arms and a 22mm Progress rear sway bar.
Another benefit the team enjoyed thanks to Leroy was plenty of seat time. Loads of experience is exactly what is required to drive a 400+whp FWD car quickly and Leroy did an exceptional job keeping the car pointed in the proper direction. By the end of the day the car absolutely destroyed the competition. It created nearly double the power output of the rest of the field and was over 2 seconds faster than the next quickest car - and that car was driven by a professional driver.
