These days, Japanese young men's fashion magazines talk about ATV and trikes (three wheelers). Some clothes shops in Tokyo display them at the shops. I know ATV is very popular in USA. In Japan, only Yamaha sells ATV but not for public street riding. Riding ATV on the public street in Japan is illegal unless it's under 50cc. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki are not selling 50cc ATV in Japan. There are some ATV shops in Japan importing 50cc ATV fromChina and Taiwan. I sometimes see ATV in Tokyo but they are never stock. Colorful paint jobs, neon lights, lowering, big exhaust, 14 inch wheels - why are Chinese ATVs becoming popular for young Japanese people? I guess because they are easy to ride and cheap. Tuning parts are cheap; exhaust is $400US and four 14-inch wheels and 205/30-14 tires are about $600; suspension for one ATV is about $200US. All of tuning parts are cheaper than it is for cars.Trikes are customized three wheeled motorcycles. There are Harley Davidson, Suzuki Hayabusa, Honda GL1800, Folza (250cc scooter), Yamaha Vmax and Majesty (250cc scooter) trikes. Trikes are becoming popular not only for young people but for anyone who has difficulty walking or suffers illness, injury or disabilities. Until this summer you didn't need a helmetand motorcycle license (having driver's license only to ride trike was ok) but Japanese government changed traffic law in this summer so you need both. Trikes are moreexpensive than the ATVs. Honda Folza trike is over $10,000US. It seems most of owners of ATVs and trikes are observant about their clothes. I think because everybody can relate to the style of ATV and trike owners. Many companies try to make new trends for young people in Japan now. The 50cc ATVs and trikes are new trends for younger people. All of Japanese car companies want to get young people back to the car market. Subaru release Subaru Impreza STI Spec C; Honda will release Civic Type-R Euro hatchback this fall; and Toyota will release IQ Sport. But I want to tell all car companies: check the past issues of Super Street magazine from 2008. How many 2008/2009 models were customized on the magazine?
