For those that think the Ariel Atom is too much, we introduce the Palatov Motorsports dp4. At $23,750, the dp4 is more of a track-attack thrill machine than a go-kart, but the driving experience is in the realm of karting. The party starts with an aircraft-grade chromoly (4130) steel tube frame; an advanced underbody aerodynamics package, a long-arm double wishbone suspension with pushrod-activated coilover dampers and an optional all-wheel drive powertrain. Motivation is provided by a variety of motorcycle engines with typical configurations using 1.0-liter or 1.3-liter plants in the 175 to 200 horsepower range. Typical weights are about 800 to 900 pounds, resulting in exceptional performance. The AWD system can handle turbo-enhanced engines in the 300-horse range. The low weight and compact size enables towing the dp4 to the track behind ordinary cars on a lightweight trailer.
