Honda Seibon Cr Z Left Side View

While SEMA is undoubtedly the showcase to floss project builds to represent the latest parts available on the market, it's also not uncommon to find custom one-off builds that are just one step above the norm. This year, Honda stepped to the game quietly and debuted an army of modified hybrid CR-Zs that wowed the entire show, a very impressive display, if you ask us. Let's take a look at these special projects as well as a few others that had us stopped in our tracks:

One CR-Z that really impressed us was at Seibon's booth. Their project used inspiration from the JDM Civic Type R as the all-new front bumper has an integrated CTR emblem and grill while the rear bumper has a center exit exhaust.

Think CR-Zs are slow? Think again. Bisimoto dropped the biggest bomb of all when they announced that they'd hit horsepower figures of 533hp, with the dyno sheet to prove it! We can't say much more other than the 1.5L has been fully rebuilt and turbocharged, but you're going to have to read a future issue to see how Bisi got this car to scream.

The most unexpected shock was the unveiling of this red Honda HPD CR-Z Hybrid R Concept during the Honda press conference. HPD is Honda's Performance Development division and this was their take on a street version. This CR-Z uses a Borg Warner AAP turbo to help generate a total of 175hp and 155lb-ft, or 200hp and 175lb-ft in Engine + IMA. HPD also fabricated their own LSD, performance clutch, sport suspension and big brake kit while Five Axis lent a hand in producing the aero. Five Axis also helped out with a set of their 19x8.5" wheels.

On the flipside, HPD brought a race-prepped CR-Z, dubbed the HPD CR-Z Racer. This car will be campaigning alongside a secondary CR-Z racecar - and also rumored, the Spoon CR-Z from Japan - at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race that typically follows SEMA during the winter. This car is also turbocharged with an upgraded IMA hybrid system as well as some of the performance upgrades the R Concept features.

Did someone say Mugen? Honda did, and they were quick to debut the full line of accessories for the CR-Z that will be sold exclusively at dealerships in 2011. So far this includes a total of 300 limited-edition accessory kits that come with a full Mugen body kit, front grille, rear wing spoiler, 17" XJ wheels, sport mats, shift knob and billet oil cap. After you've made your purchase, Honda will give you a unique serial number plaque to seal the deal.

This won't be everyone's cup of tea but Vaughn Gittin Jr's 1969 RTR-X Mustang is f'in' sick. Underneath the new Dynacorn body is a Ford Racing 302R V8 engine that puts down 440hp. The car was actually a Need For Speed video game car that transitioned over to an actual car. We can't wait to see this hit the track for some real-time drifting.
