2010 La Auto Show Front View

Since 1907 the LA Auto Show has been a look into the future of motoring for the West Coast car mecca that is Los Angeles. It is here that we get glimpses of things to come from cutting edge technologies to practical new models and of course mouth-watering concept vehicles. Here's a look at what this year's show had in store.

Concepts, Hybrids and EVs

    Subaru Impreza Concept
The new Subaru Impreza Concept made its world-debut at the LA Auto Show. With its aggressive styling, wide bodywork and low stance this is a welcome evolution of the AWD sedan. The new model will remain performance based and feature a new-generation boxer engine and CVT transmission.

    Porsche GT3R Hybrid
This is not a concept car but rather a practical endurance racer, which has already competed in three major distance races. Incorporating a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) this 911 stores electricity inside the cabin with a high-mass flywheel rather than a battery. The more energy the system has the faster the flywheel spins until the driver presses a button on the steering wheel that releases the energy to the front wheels providing an additional 160hp for up to 6 seconds at a time.

    Audi Quattro Concept
For the 30th anniversary of Audi's Quattro AWD system Audi decided to create a sleek new concept vehicle inspired by the original Sport Quattro vehicle. Based on the RS5 the entire exterior has been shaved down including roofline, overhangs and wheelbase. Up front sits a pair of LED headlights capable of switching from horizontal to vertical orientation - a world first.

    Honda Fit EV
When a normal Fit just won't do, there's the plug-in electric version. Aimed at the daily commute the Fit EV offers a range of 100 miles per charge and a top speed of 90mph, impressive figures for an all-electric vehicle. With the tuning base already in place for the regular Fit this is likely the first EV that will ever be modified.

    Infiniti Essence Concept
The Essence Concept is a car that really caught our eye at the show and stretches the limits of what is possible with automotive design. On top of the obvious aesthetic appeal is a 592hp gasoline/electric hybrid powerplant helping further establish that hybrids don't have to be bland and slow.
