Last year, Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima attained the Holy Grail of automotive mountain climbing when he set the last record involving a Pikes Peak course with any measure of a dirt surface, breaking the infamous 10-minute barrier. The 2012 edition of the Race to the Sky will be an all-asphalt affair and Monster plans to add a twist to his charge up the mountain; he will race an EV. Known for aggressive wings, canard overkill and other aero madness Tajima’s cars are always easy to spot and we expect nothing less this time around. The target is the current EV record of 12 minutes, 20 seconds, set by the AC Propulsion AC-180 last year but it would not surprise us a bit if Tajima is eyeing his overall 9:51 record as well. Details are sketchy but racer will be sponsored by Team APEV/Monster Sports and all proceeds from the effort will be donated to the Tsunami recovery efforts in Japan.
