I guess I can start off by saying that most likely you aren't a Porsche purist if you're reading Super Street. That's okay though, because honestly lots of people who really and truly qualify as Porsche purists, also qualify as "douchebags". Don't get me wrong; I love Porsches as much as the next guy, they are my favorite mark and I look forward to the day when I can afford to park one in my own garage. But I'm also aware that there is room for improvement and enjoy seeing modified examples of these fantastic automobiles. Because of how much I enjoy Porsche cars, I was extremely excited upon receipt of this assignment. Allow me to introduce to you one of the most unique Porsches in the world, Bisi Ezerioha's 996-powered 930.
A brief history lesson on what those numbers mean is probably in order. "930" refers to the majority of 911 Turbo models made from 1975-1989, and "996" refers to the widely-unloved first ever water-cooled generation 911, sold from years 1998-2005. As much as those numbers may seem tripe, they really are important indicators as to why Bisi's car is so unique and cool. And I do mean "cool" in a literal way. Because all Porsche 911s were air-cooled (much like older Volkswagens) up until the introduction of the 996 in 1998, seeing an older 930 from 1976 with a newer water-cooled powerplant is an incredibly rare thing, with this car possibly being the only example of this configuration in the world. This is where the aforementioned Porsche purists will cry out "blasphemy!" But we encourage everyone to take a chill pill, sit back and allow us to explain why this is an important build for the tuning community at large.
The main reason why this 911 is so unique is because the man who built it is a very unique kind of guy. You may recognize Bisi Ezerioha's name from the import drag racing scene, the place where he first solidified his name as a serious engine and race car builder. Bisi first came to the United States back in 1989 to study chemical engineering. As a young lad just 16 years of age, Bisi was ahead of the curve in more ways than one. His first car, a Honda CR-X, took him from point A to point B for a while, but eventually brought Bisi to be interested in racing. He had many friends who owned EF Civics and at that point in time, a B-series swap was the hot ticket item. Since he was in school and could not afford to throw money around, Bisi instead turned to his ingenuity and logic to figure out ways to go faster in his 1.5-liter CR-X. This need for speed lead to Bisi formulating his own fuel until this practice was outlawed by sanctioning bodies. The list of cars that his company Bisimoto Engineering has built (or had an integral part of building) is too long to recite, the man is truly a legend in the Honda world and has recently started to branch out into other makes, like Porsche, for example.
The first thing you'll notice about Bisi's 930 is the familiar Bisimoto Electric Blue paint and Grand Prix White Eins Gramm wheel scheme. This combination is a trademark look for Bisi, and it looks oh-so-good on the 911. The body of the car has been widened, using only metal of course. The front of the already wide 930 has been stretched out one additional inch and the rear fenders have been extended by two inches. This custom wide body combined with a customized GT3 front bumper and massive rear wing give the car a unique look, which is pure race. These parts are rare in any shape, let alone altered. Again, this is where the Porsche purists will shit themselves. But the best part is what lies underneath that huge rear winga completely built 3.4-liter water-cooled and turbocharged 996 motor, which is good for 771 horsepower at 7300 RPM.
Usually, when we talk about a "completely built" motor, we mean a production motor that has been rebuilt with upgraded aftermarket parts. With Bisi, it's a little different. Bisimoto doesn't simply build motors with parts that are already available; instead the entire process is approached from the very ground level upwards. Every single aspect of this motor has been taken apart, examined, thought over, reengineered where necessary and reassembled with the upmost care. Because of Bisi's history in the chemical engineering field, his way of thinking involves conceptualizing a motor as an energy-producing machine, and his goal is to transfer all the energy created by this machine to the wheels of the car in the most efficient way possible. I'm probably the furthest thing you can get from an engineer, but Bisi has such a way with words that he was able to explain it to me with ease. The bottom line is that this Porsche is efficient, reliable and incredibly powerful. Bisi tells me that the currently equipped Turbonetics BTX6162 "experiemental" turbochargers are smaller than his previous setup. The car was too powerful to drive he says, it would literally jump the nose into the air because of the extreme power and weight balance of the car. So "stepping it back to 771 horsepower for better drivability" is where the car is at now. Pretty intense right?
At the end of our photo shoot, Bisi took the time out of his extremely busy pre-SEMA schedule to sit and explain everything about himself and the car to me, and I'm truly disappointed that I don't have more time to spend on this car. The way it looks is awesome, the engineering behind it is truly staggering, and perhaps most importantly, the man behind the build is not only one of the smartest people I have ever met, but also one of the most genuinely kind and happy. I can't wait to see what Bisi has in store for us in the future, it will doubtless be amazing!
