Nothing chafes the big butt of big V-8 owners like being blown-off by a car that's normally used for kiddie transport-that's right, a good ol' sedan. Once considered just practical day care haulers, these four-door wonders can form the basis for some pretty quick canyon snakes. With today's world Touring Car frenzy, it's easy to see why there are so many parts to make a sneaky sedan go fast and stick to the tarmac like Clinton on an intern.
We like the idea of handing it to the musclecar guy while driving something with two extra doors. In the search for the ultimate four-doors, we started with a Toyota Camry and an Acura Integra. We could do the traditional slam, big wheels, yada yada yada, but because you demand it, we're throwing the damn book of horsepower and insanity at these two puppies. Witness the power of a day-dreaming Super Street mind.
Toyota Camry
Not a traditional vehicle for modification, the Toyota Camry is a nice, sedate people-hauler. Powered by a smooth 194 hp aluminum twin-cam V-6, this four-door hauls the groceries quickly from the factory. We like to push the envelope a little, so how about adding a supercharger to each bank of cylinders? That's right, read it again, each bank of cylinders. With two roots-type superchargers tied together by a massive intercooler, this aluminum wonder would produce gobs of raw power before you ever even thought about acceleration. Laying an entire quarter-mile of rubber would be available at the touch of the pedal. Of course, getting 400-plus horsepower to the ground is a challenge, particularly through the front wheels. A six-speed sequential racing transmission would suit our purpose admirably.
Because this nasty fire-breathing four-door could eat even the most exotic sports cars alive, it would be essential to keep this thing from imitating the space shuttle at lift-off. To keep this rocket on the ground, we would employee full coilovers all around, upper and lower front strut bars, and a full rollcage to keep the body from pretzeling under the immense torque from the engine. Large 20-inch wheels and tires would provide the right contact patch, while huge 14-inch brakes with six-piston (yes, six) calipers would slow the beast down fade free.
To match the insane heart for this patient, we would work our magic on the body. No poser here; we want it known that to mess with this sedan is simply trouble. Put huge carbon-fiber ducts in the custom front fascia and the C-pillar area to feed the brakes much needed cool air and NACA ducts in the front bumper area to feed the hungry intercooler. Lightweight body panels would be used throughout, while the front and rear wheel arches would receive mild flares for the 20s, and the hood would get little winglets to clean up the air around the A-pillar area at paint-melting speeds.
Spanking the competition was never so easy or practical.
