Year of the Supra at SEMA 2019 #MTSEMA19

Kicking off this year's SEMA coverage with 3 newsworthy A90 Supras featured in the Toyota booth

Get ready folks because you're about to be heavily inundated with nonstop SEMA coverage! Since I've built a new Supra for this year's show, I'll also be your man on the floor for all things A90, and what better way to kick things off then with three very unique builds that'll be showcased in the Toyota booth!

I was able to get exclusive access a couple weeks ago in a photo studio in Long Beach to preview the cars. Soak in these photos here but I'll also have more coming to you from the Las Vegas Convention Center later this week.

Heritage Edition

If you're a huge fan of the Mk4 but aren't a huge fan the Mk5, this is the Supra for you! The Heritage Edition is entirely inspired by the iconic Mk4 and it's built by Ed Laukes of Toyota Division Marketing and Toyota's Motorsports Technical Center (MTC). The styling cues are old school especially when you consider the rear wing is an actual Mk4 part that's been plopped onto the A90 (doesn't fit particular well but once we realized it was an actual OEM Mk4 piece, we had to give it props!). The next thing my eyes gravitated to were the headlights and taillights. The design should ring a bell and I'm told these were some of the hardest lights to make. They feature 3D-printed buckets and lenses CNC-machined from blocks of acrylic. The exterior of the Supra is also enhanced by a new front lip, rear diffuser and front fenders.

As far as the nitty gritty stuff goes, the Heritage Edition retains the stock motor but has been bumped up to 500+hp with a tune and a revamped factory turbo by Precision Turbo & Engine that's said to flow 18% better. With more power meant the need for more grip, so wider wheels and tires were installed all-around - 19x10.5" front and 19x11" rear HRE wheels with 295/30R19 front and 305/30R19 rear Toyo R888R tires. Perhaps the wildest part about this car is the rear suspension where MTC and Scarbo Performance designed an inboard rocker arm system using TEIN coilovers. This was done to help fit the mega wheel and tire package within the stock fenders.

Throw in a custom center-exit exhaust, Brembo brakes all-around, MTC/K&N intake and Titan Motorsports downpipe, we quite possibly have one of the biggest stars of SEMA and the most thoroughly-built A90 Supra of the year, all while paying homage to the original Mk4!

3000GT Concept

Giving a nod to the Supras of old seems to be a recurring theme as-is the case with this 3000GT Concept. It's a custom widebody build that draws inspiration from the original 1994 TRD3000GT kit which was released in limited production to celebrate the Mk4's Supra's success in JGTC. Built by Toyota Customizing & Development (TCD), the styling is pretty mean especially with the vented hood and monster rear wing inspired from the original Supra. Carbon enhancements can be found throughout whether it's the lip kit, rear lip spoiler and door garnishes. The execution of the widebody is quite impressive and we have to say the front fenders and side mirrors are super unique. Would be cool to see if these would actually be made into production pieces.

The brushed silver wrap is a nice touch while gold vinyl has been added to give it an extra pop. Some high quality parts finish off the project which include the TEIN coilovers, TWS Motorsport wheels, Brembo GT-S big brakes up front, HKS exhaust and Bride seats.

This Supra is definitely a head turner and could be one of the loudest examples of this year's show that doesn't rock a Rocket Bunny/Pandem kit.

Wasabi Concept

It's a bit of an unusual name, but the Wasabi Concept does exactly what it stands for...leave you with a hot and spicy taste. It screams for attention with its matte green finish, but we can definitely appreciate the well-designed lip kit and very cool rear wing, which was all constructed by Five Axis. There's a 4-inch center-exit exhaust...personally don't care for the tips, but the system looks legit! 20-inch forged wheels, front and rear Brembo brakes and Ohlins coilovers finish the recipe for the Wasabi-infused Supra. Side note: A detail not many people will notice but as an A90 owner, I could appreciate the door garnish molded to the door for a cleaner look. Something many of us feel Toyota should've done from the factory!

Alright...back to the show I go and check back in later to see more Supra and more SEMA!

Can you make your car waltz around a city street or wooded backroad like Ken Block? Probably not. Of course, the inability to hold hundred-foot all-wheel-drive slides and place a front wheel within millimeters of a dock drop-off hasn’t stopped tens of thousands of Gymkhana fans from imitating their rally hero, on- or off-camera. Most do so with a modified

One of the most common flexes among the biggest automakers is to squirrel away examples of their best and rarest work over their history to eventually show off those pieces as an anthology. Roll racing is having a moment – or at least it was before COVID hit and shut down a year’s worth of events. The motorsport phenomenon that we first noticed through the likes of Texas2K two-plus decades ago and a few other copycat events around the country since had some momentum heading into 2020 before

In order to get the full story of Garage Active, and its animated founding father, you would need more than just a single feature. In all honesty, you would probably need something along the lines of the Lord of the Rings sized trilogy, complete with all of the spin-offs, behind-the-scenes extras and perhaps even that
