At 16 I had the pleasure of watching my first car come crashing to the ground as the piston seal in the jack failed, resulting in extensive body and suspension damage. I don’t even want to think what would have happened if I was changing the oil and not the brakes. I have owned the same pair of GMG Racing has introduced a true 4.0-liter engine upgrade for multiple late-model 911 applications, including 996 GT3, RS, Cup and Turbo, as well as 3.6-liter 997 Turbo, GT2, GT3, RS, Cup, and 3.8 GT3, RS and Cup. This is a comprehensively engineered upgrade that includes a lighter and stronger billet 4.0-liter crankshaft with updated oiling. Mahle pistons forged to GMG’s specs are available in various compression ratios depending on your application. There are custom forged rods for Turbo apps and custom titanium rods for naturally aspirated setups. GMG claims NA engines are capable of producing up to 550 hp, and turbocharged units are capable of up to 950 hp depending on configuration.

Quicksilver performance exhausts are built in the UK for a variety of high-end vehicles. This one for the 996 Carrera is designed as a direct replacement for the factory tract, is constructed entirely from T304 stainless steel and features four 75mm rolled and slashed tips. Quicksilver claims gains of up to 14 hp and 16 lb-ft of torque thanks to the free-flowing design, and a deeper exhaust note on acceleration that remains unobtrusive when cruising under 3000 rpm.

APR’s 3.0 TFSI pulley upgrade kit for Audi is engineered to increase supercharger speed and to work in tandem with the company’s Stage II ECU upgrade to increase boost pressure for a bump in torque and considerably more power. The increased revolutions inside the blower result in more boost all the way to the engine’s redline, while the Stage II software prevents the extra boost from bleeding back into the intake system. The pulley itself is E-coated black for a stealthy factory appearance, and the kit includes a new supercharger belt. Current applications include B8 S4 and S5 and C6 A6.
