These are exciting times for Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S owners. The much-hyped RWD entry-level sports car has been out some four years, giving the aftermarket more than enough time to pick apart the platform and develop legitimate go-fast goodies, everything from forced induction and chassis improvements to bottom end parts. Mahle adds to that embarrassment of riches with its latest offering for the BRZ’s FA20 and FR-S’s 4U-GSE flat-4 engines, the PowerPak Plus Piston Kit Assembly.
Designed specifically for the extreme loads of high boost, direct injected engines, Mahle Motorsports’ new PowerPak Plus pistons are machined from lightweight Mahle slipper skirt forgings and feature crown designs specific to the compact FA20/4U-GSE combustion chamber. They are then triple coated – first with a phosphate dry film lubricant to protect the pin bores from galling, followed by an application of Mahle's proprietary Grafal on the piston skirt to reduce wear, and then the top ring grooves are hard anodized to withstand the higher cylinder temperatures and pressures associated with boosted direct injection applications and to also protect against micro-welding.
Mahle is the world's largest piston manufacturer and the leading piston liaison between upper level professional racing, OE and the specialty equipment automotive aftermarket. All parts are machined on Mahle manufactured, application specific equipment. For more information, contact www.mahlemotorsports.com or call toll free 888-255-1942.
