Once you’ve freed up a motor’s breathing, the desire for more power doesn’t stay away for long. The quest for more juice has plenty of routes, be they NA or forced induction. Regardless of which path you choose, it’s wise to consider your engine’s guts before jumping in head first. The parts featured in this guide are designed to create power and withstand the stresses associated with a highly built motor.
Designed specifically for the street enthusiast, the Kelford 179-A-series cams provide a significant improvement in horsepower and torque when compared with stock TSX cams and are designed to use the OEM valvetrain without any upgrades. The primary and intermediate lobes are fractionally larger than the TSX, and the main lobe features more area for increased midrange and top-end performance. Gains of 30-plus whp have been achieved with quality bolt-on parts.
Jim Wolf Technology
In-chassis valvespring tool
This tool allows a single technician to replace valvesprings in a safe manner, without removing the cylinder heads from the vehicle. By incorporating a modified follower bucket to compress each spring, the retainer locks can be set on top of the follower and moved safely into place, leaving both hands free to precisely complete the job. It can also be used with heads on the engine.
Developed, tested, and proved by Buddy Club’s own race teams and engineers, the Racing Spec camshafts utilize one of the more aggressive designs in camshaft technology available today. Buddy Club’s patent-pending lobe-forming technology increases low- to mid-range torque while maintaining a 12.8mm lift for high-end power.
High-performance engine components
Cosworth high-performance engine components, including forged pistons, billet crankshafts, forged connecting rods, and FSL head gaskets, are available for a wide range of popular performance vehicles such as the Subaru STI, Mitsubishi Evo, and Nissan GT-R.
Head and main studs and bolts
ARP fasteners are centerless ground, heat treated prior to thread rolling and machining, and designed to exceed all OEM fasteners in strength and durability. Optimum design, enhanced reliability, and increased strength are the main attributes of all ARP Pro Series fastener kits.
Asymmetrical forged pistons
JE Pistons now offers the industry’s first off-the-shelf asymmetrical piston design. The unique piston skirt design reduces friction while maintaining strength in all critical areas and includes JE Pro Seal Rings accessories.
Modular integrated deck (MID) sleeves
Modular integrated deck (MID) sleeve kits are now available from Darton Sleeves for Nissan’s VR38DETT block. This kit will allow you to go from a standard bore of 95.5 mm to a max bore of 100 mm, handling any amount of boost and/or high compression in your GT-R. Darton also offers MID sleeve kits for dozens of other applications, ranging from Japanese to domestic, and European as well.
Subaru EJ series adjustable cam gears
Bring some tunability to the Subaru EJ Series with adjustable cam gears. Deactivate your AVCS on the STI or go to a full metal gear instead of the plastic exhaust side on the WRX with these proven performers. These gears offer 10 degrees of tuning in each direction using the micrometer-style adjustment for better accuracy. Each gear is 100 percent made in the USA and features five-bolt hold-downs for added security at high rpm.
Honda D-, B-, and K-series camshafts
Brian Crower has released a new line of performance camshafts and related valvetrain parts for the Civic EX running the SOHC VTEC D16Y8 engine platform. Choose from a Stage 2 Normally Aspirated Street/Strip application or a Stage 2 Turbo spec. Both are fully CNC ground using small-diameter grinding wheels for added area under the lift curve. Both profiles require the use of a BC valvespring/titanium retainer kit. Stainless steel valves also available in standard and +0.5mm head diameters. BC also offers camshafts for B- and K-series, as well as many non-Honda applications.
Toyota 2JZ-GTE camshafts
BC has been delivering horsepower to the VVT-i 2JZGE (Aristo, Altezza, and Lexus IS) from the get-go with two proven cam grinds. Select from the popular Stage 2 (264 spec) that delivers power throughout the rpm band without extensive tuning or modifications required or the race-proven Stage 3 used by Daigo Saito in all three of his Drift cars. Both camshafts are fully CNC machined from premium iron cores and are straight drop-ins, working with factory/OEM buckets without added shimming required.
BlackWorks dual valvesprings are made from a chrome silicone alloy. These dual valvesprings are designed and engineered for both high performance race/street conditions. BlackWorks dual valvesprings provide maximum lift while preventing valve float and help counter the effects of spring surge. They are a great match for naturally aspirated and forced induction engines. For maximum results, use with BlackWorks Ti retainers and high/low-compression valves.
These CNC-machined retainers are made from the highest-grade titanium available. BlackWorks Ti retainers are machined to exact specs to help reduce the overall weight of the valvetrain, in result’s of the reduced weight RPM’s increase (huh?). BlackWorks retainers provide some of the greatest assurance from premature wear associated with high rpm. For maximum results use with BlackWorks valvesprings and valves.
Power intake manifolds
Recently introduced, the Blox Racing Version 3 intake manifold features predrilled holes on the nameplate that accommodate the new Blox Racing surface-mount vacuum block. The surface-mount vacuum block easily bolts on top of the nameplate providing a clean, hassle-free installation. However, the name badge can be applied if a vacuum block is not used. The surface-mount vacuum block provides additional sources of vacuum and can be mounted to any flat surface. Vacuum blocks are sold separately.
These billet throttle-bodies are available for the Honda B-, D-, H-, and K-series engines. Each unit is precision machined from AL6061 and features new brass throttle plates, stiffer throttle springs, and sealed bearings for quick responses and smooth operation. These high-performance throttle-bodies are designed as direct-fit replacements. Blox Racing billet throttle-bodies offer increased airflow characteristics resulting in horsepower and torque gains.
Nissan SR20VE/VET pistons
These pistons are manufactured from 2618 T-61 alloy and utilize specific forging for added structural support, strength, and durability. CP-Carrillo SR20VE/VET pistons include all the company’s engineering enhancements, including the accumulator groove and the double force-fed pin oilers with reservoir groove. These pistons are offered for either turbo/supercharged or naturally aspirated versions in standard 86.5, 87.0, 88.0, 89.0, 89.5, and 90.0 bores. All are supplied with chamfered pins and wire locks.
Blox Racing offers enthusiasts high-performance and racing K-series DOHC iVTEC camshafts. All camshafts are designed and manufactured using the latest software and casting technologies, gun-drilled, then CNC-ground to precise tolerances and performance specifications. Each camshaft profile designed offers increased horsepower and torque across the entire rpm range.
Subaru STI pistons
All pistons come standard with extra-thick wristpins and the best rings available for a Subaru. Pistons are machined to clearance the largest camshafts. CP’s Subaru pistons utilize a custom skirt and barrel design for optimum performance. These pistons are fully CNC machined on high-strength aluminum forgings and balanced to +/- 1 gram.
Complete rotating assembly
Eagle offers full rotating assemblies and stroker kits for several applications such as Mitsubishi 4G63 (all years, including Evo 8 and 9) and Honda B16, B18, and B20. Eagle assemblies include our forged 4340 chromoly steel crankshaft, forged 4340 chromoly steel H-beam rods with ARP 2000 bolts, forged pistons from manufacturers like Arias and Mahle, and performance plasma-moly rings. Mitsubishi kits include rod and main bearings.
Honda and Mitsubishi forged crankshafts
These high-strength, forged 4340 steel crankshafts for Honda B-series and Mitsubishi 4G63 applications are now available. Honda cranks are available in 77mm, 84.7mm, 87.2mm, 89mm, and 95mm strokes. Mitsubishi 4G63 cranks are available in six- or seven-bolt designs in 88mm, 94mm, or 100mm strokes. Eagle cranks feature large-fillet radii and are micropolished and nitrided for maximum power-handling capabilities and durability.
H-beam connecting rods
Eagle offers the widest range of high-strength H-beam connecting rods for sport-compact applications. All Eagle H-Beam rods are forged from 4340 steel in a two-piece forging to orient the steel grain structure to maximize strength and durability. All Eagle rods are bushed for full-floating piston pins and feature 3/8-inch ARP 2000 bolts. Suggested retail price is $400 for four-cylinder applications and $600 for six-cylinder applications. Eagle rods are available for various Acura/Honda, BMW, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, and Volkswagen/Audi applications.
Nissan GT-R camshafts

XP main bearings
King has redesigned its XP main bearing for the Subaru EJ Boxer engines. The company has solved the oil leakage and insufficient lubrication scenarios that plagued the phase 1 and 2 OE bearings. These all-new engine bearings keep the oil where it’s needed so you can turn up the boost without worry. King’s XP material has a 20 percent higher load capacity than competitors’ race bearings and features King Bull’s Eye wall tolerances for uniform bearing clearances. King offers bearings for many other applications, including Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, domestic, and European.

Pro Series valves

R35 GT-R racing components
Supertech is now offering high-quality one piece forged intake valves in stainless steel that stand out for their precision and consistency. The black nitride heat treatment provides less friction for less power absorption and better heat dissipation than chromed valves. Exhaust valves come in Inconel high-temperature alloy for turbocharged applications and are available in 1 mm oversized. Dual valvesprings, titanium retainers, and solid lifters make up the kit to provide an important weight reduction, higher performance, and durability.
Toyota 1JZ-GTE Poncams
The long-awaited camshaft has been put through several extensive trial and error test phases. Completely analyzed, back to back on the late-model 1JZ-GTE engine characteristics. These camshafts now extract even more performance than stock throughout the entire range. Excellent pickup from lower rpm, and even greater results at maximum rpm. Now you can experience the full performance potential of the late-model 1JZ-GTE.
Toyota 4AG cam pulleys
Duralumin was used for both the outer gear and the inner pulley section. We were able to significantly drop the weight while increasing durability. Both the pulley and inner plate have been milled to perfection. This ensures functionality for timing accuracy and maximum durability. The hard anodizing surface treatment of the pulley increases the product’s surface durability substantially. This also decreases the wear rate on the gears’ teeth contact areas.
Toda camshafts are produced in Japan on the highest quality billet camshaft cores available. A variety of profiles are available, from mild to full race, and VTEC Killer Camshafts are also available for select Honda engines.
Progressive-pitch coil springs are used to prevent valvespring surging and improve the natural frequency. High-strength Si-Cr steel and ultra-high-strength Si-Cr steels are also used.
Honda cam gears
These high-quality cam gears offer tenability to be found from nearly any Honda engine out there. BlackWorks cam gears are constructed from titanium for strength and lightweight characteristics.
Subaru STI connecting rods
Manufactured on dedicated forgings and made from a proprietary blend of steel, these rods are designed and engineered for optimum strength and durability. All rods are supplied with Carrillo-designed fasteners. Carrillo’s Subaru STI connecting rods are available in a variety of beam types: Strong—A-beam type, Stronger—SA-Beam Type, and Strongest—H-Beam type, and all are made in the USA.
The redesigned HKS camshafts provide improved performance, enabling a wider powerband. HKS high-performance camshafts are CAD designed to optimize torque and horsepower over the widest possible powerband. Each camshaft application is offered in multiple profiles each with its own lift and duration characteristics to suit various levels of tuning.
Clevite trimetal engine bearings
Since the development of the first precision insert-type bearing in 1929, Clevite engine bearings have set the pace for engineering and quality. Furthermore, trimetal engine bearings have been the industry standard on and off the track for decades. Available for the Honda/Acura B-, D-, H- and K-series engines and Mitsubishi Evo engine, Clevite trimetal engine bearings have 40 percent greater seizure resistance, can withstand over 60 more than percent higher loads for extended periods, and exceed light vehicle OE durability requirements of 150,000 miles. Additionally, the overlay on a trimetal bearing offers a superior surface for forgiveness and offers additional protection.
4B11 stroker kit
The 4B11 2.2L stroker kit is designed to increase engine displacement and incorporates technology that was developed in conjunction with the CZ200S Time Attack car. The 2.2L kit includes a forged full counter crankshaft, I-beam connecting rods, and forged pistons.
K1 Technologies offers a variety of billet crankshafts for the sport compact market and custom billet cranks that cover every application imaginable. All cranks are made from 4340 or EN30B material on state-of-the-art internal milling and five-axis CNC machines. K1’s stress and simulation capabilities allow for optimizing crankshaft geometry by simulating balance, bearing loads, bearing oil film, torsional loads, and stress analysis. K1 also offers in-house crankshaft balancing and an engineered finished option that utilizes ceramic and vibratory media that offers a superior surface finish to reduce friction and windage while offering a consistent and uniform way to remove stress risers.
The connecting rod’s role is to transfer the compressed pressure that the piston receives to the crankshaft. When the connecting rod becomes one with the piston, its inertial weight and balance plays a major role in the smoothness of the engine’s rotation assembly and durability at high rpm. The weight factor itself will dramatically change the engines characteristics. The overall strength, balance, and lightweight properties of the Tomei connecting rod design will take your engine to the next level.
K1 Technologies connecting rods are machined from 4340 forgings for superior strength. All rods go through a controlled heat-treat process and are stress relieved via a CNC-controlled shot-peen process. All rods feature proprietary ARP2000 bolts with asymmetrical threads to ensure consistent thread loading for a superior clamp between the rod and cap. All bores are finished in house using a new state-of-the-art Sunnen Honing machine to ensure perfectly round bores that are finish to size.
Wiseco will be releasing a new line of HD2 pistons covering several popular applications for high-horsepower turbo applications. These were designed to work with all years of Mitsubishi 4G63 engines, Mitsubishi 4B11, Toyota 2JZ, Honda K-Series, and several other applications.
