Paint protection film is the most effective way of protecting vehicles from road damages such as stone chips, debris, scratches, and more, all of which are elements that threaten your vehicle's appearance. Unfortunately, paint protection was limited in either clear bra film or hardware masking tape. The most popular clear car bra film is not only known to be expensive, ranging from $300 and higher, but also requires a qualified technician to install. On the flip side, we've all witnessed vehicles rolling into car shows or track events rocking the infamous blue "painter's tape" front bumper. Not only is the crude tape job an eyesore, painter's tape material is thin in construction and less than ideal in providing protection against foreign materials pelting your vehicle's paint.
As somebody who invests serious time and money in your car, 3M's Paint Defender System offers you an opportunity to rest assured your car is protected from rocks, sand, and other debris that threaten your exterior paintjob, without altering its custom look. We recently took a trip to 3M headquarters in St. Paul to partake in gluing, sanding, and polishing using some of 3M's newest automotive care. Among the items was one product that stood out from the rest, delivering impressive results.
The new 3M Paint Defender System is paint protection in a can that allows both the novice and experienced customers to feel confident applying from the comforts of their home driveway. The product sprays on as a liquid before transforming into a clear, durable film to guard your vehicle's paint. Comprised of a special polymer that resists weathering and chemicals, 3M chemists experimented with over 248 different test formulas over a two-year period. What started out as murky, brush-on "goo" transformed into what is known today as the Paint Defender System, an aerosol that applies a clear, thin film that's thick enough to protect, yet fully removable.
3M Paint Defender System applies in three easy steps:
Step 1: Mask the vehicle with the 3M Paint Defender Application Kit to frame the desired area to protect.
Step 2: Wax the masked area prior to spraying so it’s easier to remove the film when desired.
Step 3: Spray film over the masked area using the 3M Paint Defender Spray Trigger. The spray goes on rough and cloudy in appearance but will smooth out within approximately an hour of applying.
