Meet Julie Mai, a diehard San Diego girl who is one of the hardest working, most ambitious models that we've ever laid eyes on. Not only does she model and do a bit of go-go dancing on the side, she's also a regular 9-5-er for a major corporation, homeowner and well on her way to finishing law school this year. All you girls out there aspiring to find a sugar daddy and get wifed-up better get like Ms. Julie Mai and do work! There's nothing wrong with an empowered woman that can take care of her own business and dream big.
What's up Julie! How'd you originally get started with modeling?
Typical starter story: pageant, Miss Vietnam California 2008.
Where did you grow up and what is your ethnicity, since we hear people tend to confuse you for something else?
Born and raised San Diego! What... Miss Vietnam California Pageant didn't give it away? *Smiles* I'm 100% Vietnamese. I'm more tan and taller than most, and my eyes are almond-shaped so I tend to get mistaken for Pinay—which I don't mind; I know quite a few gorgeous Filipina girls and they're from San Diego, too!
We hear that you're quite the student. What are you going to school for and what do you plan to do after you graduate?
My weekdays are consumed by torts, case studies and mock depositions. What is a law student? (Jeopardy Analog.) I hate telling people this because I sound corporate and boring! It leaves no room for flirting, so I plead the 5th.
Tell us something about yourself that most people wouldn't really expect.
I'm deathly afraid of revolving doors. I won't go through them! I'll use a normal door like a normal person. Oh, and my credit score is over 800. Random but I had to brag!
Instead of you telling us about how you like long walks on the beach and how you hate guys with bad hygiene, let's try something different. We're gonna run through a speed round of questions where you give us the first answer that comes to mind:
Hair up (ponytail) or down?
Worst thing you've ever eaten?
Best thing you've ever eaten?
Recently, a CRONUT! [Croissant/doughnut hybrid—Ed.]
Worst movie you've ever seen?
Snakes on a Plane, stupid movie!
Regular or Flaming Hot Cheetos?
Hot Cheetos, with nacho cheese or cream cheese!
Waffles, NO, French Toast!!
Italian, Mediterranean and Spanish.
Back to the more serious Q&A. Is there anything you'd really love to do before you finally settle down?
I really hope to establish my career and legacy before sharing it with another person. A Julie Mai empire is in the works!
Any words of wisdom you'd like to pass along?
I learned this the hard way: don't take anything you have for granted. Everything you have or don't appreciate can one day be taken away from you. Your family is your best friend and will always have your back. Be humble and keep your personal goals and dreams in sight because they are just as important.
