Once you get to www.nira.com, clickon the "NIRA TV video clips" tab and you can download a DSL or 56K modem-friendly video stream directly to your hungry eyes. But before you do start pointing that, mouse let's give a listen to NIRA yogi Craig Lieberman for a bit.
Do you know that aftermarket companies and major automotive manufacturers are sitting in small rooms right now, trying to anticipate your needs for the next five years? It's true. All they know for sure is that the audience will continue to be young and will spend a whole bunch of money. Some manufacturers are better at figuring out what you'll be buying than others.
Take NIRA's sponsors, for instance. Last year, Toyo Tires and Meguiar's were our two biggest sponsors. Together, these two companies helped to bring you a 10-event season that provided us with a solid foundation upon which to build. They were joined by about 20 other companies who agreed to provide payouts to the racers directl, as part of NIRA's contingency program.
What a difference a year makes. For the 2000 season, NIRA has signed no fewer than eight additional major sponsors.
That makes 10 major sponsorship programs. And that's just the tip of the iceberg, as nearly 35 companies, have made it possible to offer another $800,000 in real money! All of these companies believe that if they support the sport you love. And put their name in front of you repeatedly, you'll come to realize that these companies should be your first choice when shopping for products in their respective categories.
Certainly NIRA's extensive sponsor list is old news by now (hell, I've been beating it into your heads all summer long!), but what does all this support really do for the industry?
For starters, their support makes it possible for NIRA to get six episodes of ESPN2 programming produced, and each episodes airs up to four times. Each time a program airs, it reaches up to 18 million households. All of this exposure prompts other companies to become involved, which means bigger payouts, more magazine coverage, and, best of all, the opportunity for you racers to get sponsored! That's right: You, too, stand a good chance of being sponsored, because-believe me when I tell you-these folks are looking for fresh young talent.
But the interest doesn't end with sponsorships and potential sponsorships. The entire country realizes that audiences are growing younger each day. As Generation X matures, Generation Y is right behind them, representing the buying power of up to 72 million people. That's a quarter of this whole damn country. That realization has sent a powerful message to the older generation: Get hip quick, give us what we want, or go into early retirement.
