Get wild! Get gnarly! This game is so extreme! Those are all the catch phrases I use daily, so they pop into mind when I put Freekstyle into my PS2. Too bad catch phrases like that are quickly being played out. Freekstyle takes all the elements of SSX Tricky-another EA Sports BIG! title-and applies them to the sport of motocross racing. The hardcore music, the crazy characters, and the twisted sense of humor of SSX all come into play to heighten the feel of this dirt-bike racing game. This time around, EA Sports has added real motocross racers to the mix. Brian Deegan, Mike Metzger, Stefy Bau, and a host of others make appearances in a computer-generated form on the PS2. There is even an appearance from lingerie model Leann Tweeden. They all battle it out through stages reminiscent of a cross between Wipe Out and a Mad Max movie, getting serious air and bustin' out crazy tricks hundreds of feet in the air that in the real world would be impossible. Doing backspins on the seat of a motorcycle while it's rotating 360 degrees in the air isn't a trick that you'll see at the Gravity Games any time soon, at least not until they perfect anti-gravity, magnetic boots and gloves. There are levels in the game that contain garden gnomes, volcanoes, cityscapes, and arenas. To say this game is big would be an understatement. Unfortunately, all that is good with the game-the look, the framerate, the characters, the music-has all been done before, just using different vehicles. Basically, if you liked SSX, then you will love Freekstyle. But if you didn't, then get gnarly.
