Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge is billed by Microsoft Game Studios as being a Hollywood, swashbuckling-type action adventure movie set in an alternate 1930's world. Translated, think of it as an Indiana Jones-style of adventure only a bit darker--more pirate-like than Robin Hood.
Taking place in an alternate 1930's, the United States has fractured into several countries brought on by The Great Depression. Hauling goods by air becomes the best way to transport items, and that leads to the rise in air piracy. But who said there was anything wrong with that? As well-to-do mercenary Nathan Zachary, you take to the skies with your daring crew to fly missions, defeat the enemy and of course, save various damsels in distress along the way.
As Nathan, you get to fly up to 10 different warplanes that can be fully tricked out with remote-controlled rockets, rapid fire cannons, and tesla guns to name just a few weapons in the arsenal. Plus, learning to be an aerial ace was never so easy--just a few things to learn and in no time you are dodging bogeys and flying right into heavy dogfights with cannons blazing.
Fantastic graphics really set this game apart from many games out there. It doesn't take any time at all to feel like you are the leader of this renegade band of air pirates. Even before you realize what you are doing, you will be flicking the right joystick to cut quick flips, barrel rolls, and other daring moves to outwit the enemy and gain the upper hand in the air war. Take your skills online and challenge friends (up to 16 players ) through the Xbox Live game service--not only can you go head to head in some down and dirty dogfighting, but get a team together to play Flag Heist, Keep Away or something funny like Wild Chicken.
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge is definitely the wild adventure Microsoft promises. It's chock full of great characters and animation, and boasts responsive, easy to use controls, great aerial tricks and fights and our favorite, nice explosions. This game is all about being a fun shoot 'em up, and delivers across the board. We give it four and half nukes.
