Extreme sports are found everywhere, but especially in video games, where even the sky isn't the limit. The great thing about video games is that anything goes, and that holds true with XGRA: Extreme G Racing Association, which sends us zooming straight into the future for some hardcore racing action. Fantasy tracks that light up the sky, racing bikes build for speed and pain, and racers who are there to win at all costs are just some of the tasty treats to look forward to in the game.
XGRA is the latest game in Acclaim's popular racing series, and this latest title is the best yet. These futuristic super tracks are dynamic, head-spinning courses designed with awesome racing bikes in mind. These bikes give new meaning to the term "road warrior", as they hold a host of deadly delights meant to wipe out you and your opponents on your way to victory.
Don't get too cocky though, because these racers hold a grudge and a vendetta system operates heavily in this game. Whack a guy in the first race and you better keep an eye on him, because you never know when he'll strike back and carry out some nasty foul play on you. Basically, everyone is out to get you all of the time- and your job is to knock out other racers, save your own skin and win the race.
Speaking of vengeance, these hot, ultramodern bikes are equipped to unleash some pain and suffering, sporting both primary and secondary weapons. Your primary weapons can pave the way to victory with an assortment of bombs, particle cannons, mortars and other various cruelty at your disposal. Secondary weapons become available if you race over weapon mods that are on the tracks. These secondary weapons are devastatingly wicked and are often powerful enough to do major damage to enemies and to the different racetracks' destructible objects. A few "destructibles" include track supports and bridges--and don't forget that a well placed land mine makes for even more fun while racing.
In many racing games, the more you win, the more cool stuff you get and XGRA is no exception. Up for grabs are new weapons, bikes, race tracks, game modes, and equipment. Upgrades keep you riding at the head of the pack, and some of those new weapons can make up for any racing skills you might be lacking.
Over the top racing action, dazzling tracks, plus the chance to cause some damage and destruction makes this an entertaining alternative to more serious racing games. We give XGRA 4 nukes.
