Game Title: Thief: Deadly Shadows
Publisher: Eidos
Genre: Stealth Action
Platform: Xbox, PC
Rating:
Enter the shady world of master thief, Garrett in Eidos's new stealth-action game, Thief: Deadly Shadows. Garrett is the City's foremost, skilled thief who finds himself in the crappy position of saving the City from collapsing into a chaos of evil thereby sending the City into a new Dark Age. Garrett must put all his thieving skills to the test to steal the vital treasures needed to save the City and it's inhabitants from the evil forces waiting to take over.
Thief is a great change of pace from fast-action, bullet blow-outs associated with most action games. "Quiet" does not mean boring, and believe us when we say that being really quiet is really hard, and that kind of pressure can work a person's nerves harder at times than full-on carnage. Eidos designers have created a dynamic lighting /shadow system so that all objects and characters cast real shadows. It's more than a cool extra, it could mean the difference of getting into a secured area or getting caught.
The new AI technology has been applied to the Guards in the game, and now, they can see, hear, search for intruders, track evidence, and beat Garrett's ass if they find him. Moving through populated and semi-lit areas is tough, because sudden movements will rouse the Guards' suspicions, so it's essential players stay alert at all times, and plan carefully. Garrett's movements need to be stealthy, quick, and smooth, to avoid a potentially fatal beating.
Eidos didn't leave Garrett without any skills--or weapons. This thief is no wuss and he comes well-armed with a club and a trusty dagger (to name a few), as well as a nice set of tools to get the thieving done right. To help Garrett get the full perspective on the situation, players have the ability to switch between first and third person viewpoints--at any time, because both modes are fully supported, so take advantage of it! Being able to switch back and forth will come in handy for the variety of activities Garrett is capable of doing like picking locks, breaking and entering, combat with pesky Guards, assassinations and even plotting ambushes.
Thief: Deadly Shadows is a great game with a cool twist on the action genre. It's a tight game that will have players on the edge of the couch as they sneak through the City hi-jacking treasures to save the City from being overrun by evil.
