Capcom stormed the video game world over a decade and half ago with the arcade phenomenon, Street Fighter. Street Fighter's mega-success not only launched a number of sequel titles, but most importantly, it rocketed gaming into a whole new stratosphere. Capcom showed the world what fighting games could be and by doing that created a whole new category of gaming. Fast forward and it's now 15 years later, and to celebrate Capcom has put together the "Street Fighter Anniversary Collection." The anniversary collection comes with a compilation of two games: Hyper Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, and includes a full-length feature film: Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. This is 2-D fighting at it's best and anyone who loves fighting games should check this out to see where it all began.
Hyper Street Fighter II is a unique compilation that allows players to choose a host of characters taken from five different games in the Street Fighter series: Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II Championship Edition, Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Even trying to imagine the endless combinations of fighters and matches available to play is mind-numbing, but thank goodness the gameplay isn't. There are four gameplay modes in this version which cover both single and multiplayer game modes, plus a Training Mode so that gamers can get to know a characters moves before taking him/her out for a battle. As an added extra, gamers can visit the Gallery Mode to check out the different game intros, the various soundtracks, and all the background information on the characters from all of the Street Fighter II games.

After Street Fighter II, jump up to Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. Here's where gamers can see not only the progression of the game, but that SFIII was a big jump to the next generation of fighting games. SFIII features the same types of game modes as Hyper Street Fighter II, with the exception of the Gallery Mode. The characters in Street Fighter III:3rd Strike are much more advanced and defined, and each of the playable characters possess their own special abilities, including the Super Arts Move where players get to pick a special super-move for their character to use in battle. The other features included such as the Grade Judge System that grades players performances, Progressive Hit Frame System allowing for accurate targeting of opponents, and other upgraded moves and abilities for the characters.
For Street Fighter fans this game is a must, and fans of fighting games should really check this out. It's like a virtual timeline into the past to let gamers see how the genre has evolved over time into the 3D wonders we have today. The character animations and fighting is fun, the controls are easy to learn and it still provides a great challenge for gamers.
