Sega's ESPN sports series has come back with a vengeance this year producing some terrific upgrades to greatly improve their franchise. ESPN NFL 2K5 is a great game for superb graphics and player animation, intense online gaming, and a new, advanced AI that challenges gamers in new ways. Other cool game modes and features round out the game, plus, just like the other ESPN sports titles, this little gem is going for only $19.99.
What's a professional sports game without its announcers, and NFL 2K5 has hosts Chris Berman and sideline reporter Suzy Kolber to deliver the play by play commentary. Their roles have been expanded to include half-time and post game shows, run/pass analysis, and player awards. Player controls have been updated for improved gameplay like Maximum Tackle, which lets gamers decide to go for a regular tackle, or go for broke by inflicting maximum hit power to slam an opponent into the turf. Breakthrough moves lets gamers make some amazing moves like end zone catches, but watch out because weather changes can turn a player from smooth moves to loser by slipping, tripping, and falling on the field.
Online mode keeps the excitement going with sweet online gaming and includes the usual stats boards and chat areas for people to hook up or to get a game going.
Franchise mode has been expanded to give players more management opportunities and new to the game is Crib points which players use to buy cool things for their player's virtual apartment, or buy useful stuff like game cheats and new stadiums.
ESPN NFL 2K5 is a hot game with a cool price that definitely deserves some play time in the PS2 or Xbox.
