In the dog-eat-dog world of video games, creating a blockbuster franchise is difficult to achieve due to the extraordinarily tough competition and the wide variety of game options available to tempt potential buyers. From its first release, Capcom's "Devil May Cry" lit the gaming world on fire with its fast-action combat, compelling storyline, great graphics, and a demonslayer that looked and acted like a rock star. Never one to let fans down, Capcom delivered a solid sequel, and comes back again for a third time with the amazing Devil "May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening." For DMC3, gamers are taken back to an earlier part of Dante's life to see the dark struggle between Dante and his twin brother Vergil--a powerful warrior dedicated to creating the evil Dante is bent on destroying. "Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening" is a fantastic addition to the Devil May Cry series and gamers are in for another hellish ride full of mayhem, destruction and enough demon killing to satisfy even the thirstiest of bloodlust.
To fully appreciate the first-rate musical score and sound-effects that make DMC3 so hauntingly perfect, it's the best to play in the darkest room possible with the surround sound up high. In non-combat moments, the game is alive with details like the clanging of iron gates, or the crunch of gravel under Dante's hard-soled boots, or the most creepy, the sinister sounding whispering voices that filter through the game. The mission design and gameplay are excellent and the richly detailed environments immerse gamers deep into its dark gothic feel.
In keeping with the fast-paced action that made the first two DMC games such a hit, DMC3 starts with an explosion of combat that had controller buttons flying as Dante decimated demons in typical dual weapon fury. For added game depth, players can choose from four different fighting styles to change up Dante's fighting style and techniques. Trickster style still lets Dante use his sword and firearms, but has an added extra of evasive moves to dodge the enemy. Swordsman style is best for up-close combat and creates special hard-core moves for Dante's legendary blade. For long-range attacking choose Gunslinger style, and for counter-attack and guard expertise there is Guardsman style of play. Dante is equipped with up to four weapons that can be instantly interchanged anytime during gameplay and battle, so Dante can fit the weapon to the battle at hand.
It's not all mindless fighting in DMC3, there are puzzles to solve, and strategic moves to make in order to keep progressing through the mission levels. Devil May Cry 3 definitely provides challenging gameplay, and less than expert gamers will be going through levels several times in an effort to make it through. The one complaint with this game is that there are no save points during the missions. Unfortunately that means if gamers don't beat the boss at the end of the level--it's back to square one to do the whole thing over again.
