Area-51, Midway's latest first-person action title is a solid game that offers great looking graphics, a good storyline and more than a few "damn, that scared me" moments. Gamers play as Specialist Ethan Cole, Special Forces leader of the HAZMAT Division, who is sent to Area-51 to investigate a viral outbreak that has triggered an automatic quarantine and lock-down of all scientific and military personnel. A deep, single-player story mode immerses gamers into the secret confines of Area-51 as Ethan desperately searches for the answers to stop the viral mutagen from being released to infect and mutate all life on Earth. For faster action, multiplayer options are available for PS2 and Xbox that let gamers wage war with up to 16 players online or up to four players on both consoles. A nice selection of weapons that include both human and alien models help Ethan keep the alien menace just a step or two behind him. Area-51 is a well executed game that is topped off by excellent voice acting by David Duchovny and Marilyn Manson that adds a certain cool, if not surreal quality to the game.
