If you happen to own a DA Integra, which you probably don't, chances are that you don't have much in the way of options when it comes to scooping up a cat-back exhaust system. If your DA happens to be turbocharged, your choices for a properly engineered system narrow considerably. In fact, like our non-imaginary lifetime date count, they equal zero. So what do you do? You hop on the net searching for mail order brides. But after you come back, you still don't have what you need. Trust us, we've tried. Just like our mail order bride search, Project Blackout is coming along slowly but surely. That's what this exhaust dilemma has been. After doing some tedious research, Chimpy finally decided to go with a system that offered his Full Race turbo kit the least amount of restriction while keeping the db's at an acceptable level. The last thing he wants to do is get pulled over by officer O'Malley for a loud exhaust and he can't risk another deportation.
Magnaflow Performance Exhaust has been around since before young people knew who Mario Andretti was. Chimpy used their products on his first DA back in 1995, and the quality and performance back then met his expectations, so he started with what worked back in '95. A visit to www.magnaflow.com gave Chimpy all the diagrams and measurements he needed to pick out the components for the system. Chimpy wanted the quietest exhaust system in our garage while still having a true 3-inch system to decrease backpressure and allow the GT30R to spool quicker than Rik at Steer Inn. The first step was to measure the stock muffler. As a general rule of thumb, the larger the muffler, the quieter your engine will sound. Chimpy chose the oval 5x11 unit (p/n 14589) that features full mirror-like stainless steel construction and a 3-inch straight-through design. For Chimpy there's no such thing as overkill, so he also ordered a resonator measuring 14 inches long and 4 inches around (p/n 14419) to help further dampen the sound. Since it's also straight through, there's no restriction, which is what you want for a turbocharged car. Finally, Magnaflow's stainless steel 3-inch tips were chosen to exit from the rear bumper. Coffee can muffler tips are so 1998. The twins are also constructed from stainless steel, with tiny pilot holes at the base to allow condensation buildup to drip out. Nice touch.

With the muffler/resonator/tip outta the way, the next order of business was to locate adequate piping for the system. After scouring the web, we found a company, KTeller.com, which caters to all the DIY enthusiasts out there. They offer solutions for the custom crowd in the form of mandrel-bent exhaust bends, piping kits, and real stainless steel hardware to round off custom systems. Crunch piping could be used, but remember, you get what you pay for. KTeller offered us the perfect solution: an off-the-shelf 3-inch stainless steel mandrel-bent piping kit specifically made for the DA. All the hangers, flanges, gaskets, and clamps are included in the $225 price tag. If you know how to weld, you're in like Flynn. Chimpy can't weld because of some explosives sanction placed on him when he got the job here. So it's off to the muffler shop.
