Even if your Acura is equipped with a single-disc CD player, you can add a six-disc changer. If your car came with a cassette player, you can add a single CD unit and/or the changer. The changer comes with all the necessary installation hardware including a heavy-duty mounting bracket. If you have the dealer install the parts, the warranty on the accessories is the same as the vehicle: three years/36,000 miles for the Honda, and four years/48,000 miles for the Acura. The warranty starts from the time of installation. If you buy the units over the counter and take them home to install yourself, the units are covered for one year.

Since we knew we would have most of the interior apart to get the CD changer installed, we took the opportunity to add an Acura factory security system. The system comes with two transmitters and a control unit that mounts under the seat. The alarm can be connected to the horn circuit or an optional siren kit. We chose the horn since it’s more obnoxious.

Take out the screws that join the consoles together, as well as the self-tapping screws located on the front console. Unscrew the shift knob and carefully lift the front console out.

Run the cable to the rear of the trunk area on the driver side of the vehicle. Attach the CD changer to the heavy-duty protector bracket. Locate the two dimples on the floor panel and position the provided template over the dimples. Mark the appropriate holes with a marker and remove the template. Then center-punch and drill the three holes. Start with a 3mm drill and work up to the final 7 mm. Install the provided collars and washers, and tighten the protector unit to the body using the large cap nuts. Connect the DIN plug and secure the cable using cushion tape.

What Acura installation would be complete without some really cool Genuine Type R Accessories? We told you about them before and now we’ve got some of our very own. We managed to acquire a set of heavy-duty Type R floor mats and a way-cool Type R shift knob. Now all we need is a Type R engine and we’ll be set. Just like the audio upgrade and the security system, the Type R accessories are available direct from your local Acura dealer.

Truth be told, there is no shortage of parts and accessories for Honda and Acura cars. If you can imagine a product, chances are someone makes it for an Acura or a Honda. So why then, with all the choices you have for parts, should you even consider going to a dealer for your accessories? After all, dealers don't have the parts you want, and even if they did, they'd be more expensive, right? Plus, you've got plenty of friends who can help you install the stuff. All they need is an electric saw, a plasma cutter, and 12 rolls of duct tape.

Before you go investing your hard-earned money in products and services that you're really not sure of, there's something you should know: You can get a wide selection of cool stuff directly from your Acura dealer. Everything from audio equipment to floor mats to body kits is available for most models. And, believe it or not, the prices are right there with the other guys'. Plus you're assured that the dealer components meet the manufacturer's strict quality standards and that they're installed by qualified personnel. What more could you ask for? We recently paid a visit to Acura to watch them upgrade the stereo system in our Integra. We were able to talk them out of a keyless entry/remote alarm system, as well as some of those really cool Genuine Type R Accessories. Follow along as we highlight the installation.
