While the car is still on the ground (with the parking brake on!), loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels. You may need to use a lug nut key for this if you have super-special fantastic wheels. Hopefully, you’ll have that key with you like we did so those wheels can come off lickety-split.

Support the car on jackstands, or utilize a lift if you’re a big moneybags cool guy. Finish unscrewing the four 17mm bolts that hold the wheels on and remove the front wheels. Set aside for later. You’ll need them. Boy, will you ever!

This is what your brake assembly should look like after you’ve removed your super-extremo stylish wheels. Can you find the caliper, rotor, and hub? Good job!

Now for the serious stuff. It’s time to remove the two 17mm bolts that hold the caliper onto the hub. You may have to reach into the passenger compartment and unlock the steering so you can rotate the brake assembly for easier access to those two bolts. Remove them!

It may take some wiggling, but after a while, voila! It will come free.
  • Mitsubishi Mirage Rotor View
Slide the old stinky brake rotor from its position on the brake hub. Do whatever it is people do with stock brake rotors when they’re no longer desired: make it into a pencil holder, planter, or door stop with the application of some common household items like cotton balls and papier-mâché sailboats.

Take the shiny new Power Slot brake rotor out of its box, being sure to select the one marked L or R, depending on which side of the car you are doing first (L is for driver side, R is for passenger side). Line up the holes on the rotor with the bolts coming out from the hub and slide the new rotor into place.

Take the time to replace the brake pads with new ones. Power Slot suggests high-performance pads. You may need to compress the piston and caliper when you are putting in the new brake pads.

Looks good, huh? This is what your new rotors should look like if they are properly installed. If it doesn’t look like this, something went wrong.

  • Mitsubishi Mirage Wheel View Reattach
Repeat the process for the other side of the car. If everything checked out in the last step and you did the installation correctly, it’s time to put the wheels back on. Put the wheels on and finger-tighten the lug nuts. Then lower the car to the ground and tighten the lug nuts to factory specs. If you try to do this while the car is elevated, the wheels will spin around and make it hard to do.

Stop! Can’t stop? Front brakes not behaving the way they should? Then maybe it’s time to replace those stock rotors. And if you drive a Mirage like ours, Power Slot has just what you’re looking for (PN 726 PSL and 726 PSR). We watched and listened and learned as Orlando at Performance Products in Van Nuys, California, did the installation. In case you’re one of the lucky ones, Performance Products also specializes in working on Porsches, Mercedes, and SUVs.
