Nine-Second HKS Front-Drive Celica Coming To America? While we Americans are busy tinkering with Honda Civics, making a seemingly futile attempt to reach the 9-second quarter-mile barrier, HKS Japan has gone out and blasted everybody out of water with its sixth-generation Celica. Well, Stranger Things Have Happened
I hate to admit it but I suppose it's about time I come clean and say it: I lost. In the spirited battle of the EFs between Super Street and Project Car, the 1990s style that I so righteously represent just can't hang with the new school tricks that Gary's CR-X pulled out, and I can see why: the attention to detail was carried out so perfectly that I would have been surprised if the win didn't go to them. Let me back up and give you the full story: last year we decided to have a friendly build-off, to generate some cross-promotion between the two titles and see if they could take my old single cam D16, turbocharge it and beat me at the drag strip against a bone stock B16A swap; sort of the perfect challenge for two projects with an even dollar amount to complete. They beat me fair and square on the 1/8th mile, but then again their torque curve was massive compared to my gutless and stock B16. So I issued a show off, so to speak, thinking shit, maybe I could take them down in a field that suits me better. Though in a broader spectrum we are still divided between east and west, there are specific states now that are expected to produce the best builds. On the west you have Cali of course. In the east is most notably Florida. The rest are pretty much slept on. Occasionally you will see a car here and there coming from a smaller state but it's few and far between. One of the most slept on states would have to be Texas. To the common folk, when you mention the state of Texas, built Hondas just aren't the first thing that comes to mind. The S2000 that I know is razor sharp. It cuts into corners and one wrong throttle move can make you over steer and spin out right there in the middle of the turn. There's nothing you can do but pray for your life at times like that. The Honda roadster's suspension set up is so rigid that you can feel every dip and bump with your ass. My Midori Hatch AKA Leroy AKA Flearoy AKA Flea Bag AKA The BagWell ladies and gents, here he is in all his majesty, my 1996 Civic CX I lovingly refer to as "Leroy." I purchased this car in the spring of 2006 after my previous car, "Reggie" an EG hatch, was stolen and completely stripped. After getting screwed by my insurance and bumming rides for a month, I finally came across another car I could see myself building. Rather than jumping right back into another EG, although that was my first thought, I felt like doing something a little different. 240s had crossed my mind along with a few other cars from various makes, but I knew that deep down inside, it would be very hard to break myself away from my love of Honda.

Indulge yourself for a minute and imagine making a journey across the vast land of the United States of America. How would you travel across the continental 48 states? By car, train or plane? Either of those answers would be considered doable, although plane would be the most expensive and least fun of all. But what if you had to do the trip by scooter? At a top speed of 40mph, the Honda Ruckus may not seem like a candidate for a proper road trip vehicle, but don't tell that to Wan Lee of Seoul, South Korea who last year made a round trip across the country from his starting base of Fayetteville, North Carolina. With the gas tank in his Ruckus topped off, Wan enlisted the help of the perfect strangers on the TotalRuckus.com message board who aided in everything from the language barrier, technical problems with the scooter and providing the weary traveler a couch to crash on. We asked Wan a few questions about his journey and could see every exciting moment flash back in his eyes.

HKS Team Up with Hyundai To Build Genesis Concept Car
Hyundai keeps the Genesis project rolling as they have also teamed up with Japanese super tuner, HKS, to create a unique concept vehicle, one they hope will showcase the car's aftermarket potential. We recently caught up with HKS to take a behind-the-scenes look at the build of this coupe and we can honestly say you're in for a real treat once it's completed. Not only will the 2.0L sport a trademark GT turbo from HKS, but Ken Style of Japan sent a body kit specialist to their Torrance headquarters to craft a one-off kit by hand and from scratch, just for this project, which may see the light of day depending on response. Stay tuned as we'll be following the entire build of the HKS Hyundai Genesis MOBIS project.

If you didn't already know, Bridgestone Tires has a chain of auto parts stores called Cockpit. Rather than just buying a few performance parts for his Impreza, Ryo Suda worked with the Cockpit store in Saitama, to build a car that was show-worthy, track- worthy and still streetable. "My car is easy to drive on the street as well as on the race track", Ryo says.

All right, it's time to put up or shut up as the Castrol Syntec Top Shop Challenge is about to go down and we got the word from our main man Bisi Ezerioha from Bisimoto, that our F22A engine is finished and ready to wipe the oil from the dyno floor with our competitors' engines.

When Password JDM builds a car they like to go all out. Being the ultra-hyphy JDM connoisseurs they are, this build is no different. Rather than taking the reliable formulas for speed (i.e. DC2/EG/EK) Password wanted to do something entirely different. Back in July 2006, a car had to be chosen and the final decision was to buy a new Civic sedan and turn it into an FD2 Type R replica (something yet to be done at the time). That might not be too difficult today since Honda released the popular Si sedan, but the task of removing the stock SOHC from this model, and replacing it with a K20/24 hybrid beast built by Realtime Racing, was a more complicated task than anyone had really anticipated.

When buying JDM parts just isn't cool or original enough, you can take it to another level by turning to rare, discontinued JDM parts. I admit that I, too, was seduced by the dreamy essence of older, discontinued JDM parts and paid ridiculous coin for used parts that some consider junk. Paying over $5k for a set of used wheels, I once had a Mugen arsenal to make most tuner shops jealous. I also owned a true holy grail of JDM parts: HKS 5A-GX valve covers for the Toyota 4AG motor. Why would anyone want stuff like that? The prices straight out suck; the condition is used and questionably restorable; and the performance is far surpassed by today's technology. But having parts that no one else has or can even find makes all the trouble worthwhile for some of us.
