THOUGH, some aftermarket companies make OEM remanufactured parts that are exactly what the manufacturer made, only remanufactured. Then there are the aftermarket stuff that aren't OEM, fit like OEM, but don't perform like OEM, though they label it as OEM... To keep simple, OEM is dealer stuff that is new, remanufactured stuff is OE, generally and aftermarket is, well, aftermarket. I'm not helping, am I? OEM is parts that were made by GM, Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, Subaru, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Dihatsu, Ferrari... You get the point. OE is the same thing... :0 wow, I even confused my self! I do most of what a parent will do for the kids so that they can enjoy it, but for me it's not what it used to be. Maybe it's the economy and the fact that I'm unemployed. I'm going out to do my part in looking for jobs, posting tons of resumes and looking through the newspapers for listings of any kind. Times are tough and I've always been positive about work. Plus, I love working on cars, so it couldn't be depression or loss of a positive outlook. Maybe it's the way every one is, the news headlines from crazy people spraying mace and trampling over others and the over all violence that people have in their hearts. I don't know, but it sure isn't me. I try to be positive. It feels like things keep getting worse every year and there are fewer and fewer rays of light to make it all worth some thing. I won't give up on hope. It's not in my nature. I hope every one has the same kind of hope that I do. It'll get better... don't know when or how, but it will get better. Peace and love to all in the coming New Year. Be joyfull and live life to the fullest. Life is what it is, but you only have it once to live it! ;)

Why is Christmas lacking year after year? |

The only thing that I will see as being a problem for you is the level of experience that you'll have once you get out of school. Most shops look for 3 to 5 years experience in a tech and ASE will be a factor in what you will earn per hour. You have one leg in the door by going to school and I commend you for that. Tuner shops are hard, though. I've been in the dealership area of the industry and have build quite a few engines in my time, but tuner shops can do what dealerships can't and/or won't do. Which brings me to the next comment. You will find your self having to work in dealerships, mom and pop shops or under car specialty places like Midas or Mieneke before you get to where you want to get. If you're lucky,( and hope you are), you'll be taken in as an apprentice in a tuner shop. Then you can grow and learn every thing that school didn't have time or resources to teach you. I have to admit one thing, though. The industry isn't being good to the thousands of techs trying to make a living at this thing we do. Dealerships all around are letting techs go left and right. I'm a victim of that scenario. I've been a tech for 26 years and have been out of wor for two months now. Most places are not family friendly with regards to scheduling and a lot more places are open seven days a week and want you to work every weekend. It's getting uglier out there, but things will improve once the idiots in Government decide to look out for the middle class so that the economy can start fixing it self. It's not all glitter and glory, bro, but it is fun to fix cars. Only a few can get the glam and glory, like Chip Foose and the like. Have fun with it, bro. that's all I can add to this post. ;)

Career help. |
