Here's i-VTEC from the RSX Type-S, up close and personal. Note how each pair of valves has three cam lobes and three rocker arms. At low- and midrange engine speeds, the rockers follow the two outboard lobes, which have been ground with moderate lift and duration for good combustion chamber fill under normal driving conditions. At around 6,000 rpm, the center rocker takes over, following the much more aggressive center lobe and helping the engine reach its 200hp peak at 7,400 rpm. View Related Article
