It’s traditionally known that with a nitrous kit, all you have to do is set it up and you’re off. For beginners, it’s a matter of trial and error (plus repeated trips to the track) to find out what works the best for you. For seasoned vets, if your motor is receiving its third rebuild, then obviously you knew you’d pushed it too far. It really is challenging to get your nitrous kit dialed in! If it were easier to do, we’d have done it already. Actually, Venom’s done the hard part for us. Its new PC Nitrous System is the first of its kind to be extremely user-friendly and can be configured easily like Neo and The Matrix’s kung-fu tutorial program. It features drag, linear, and timed modes; low-bottle detection; and an optimal air/fuel ratio at any bottle pressure. Best of all, you can install it in quick time (roughly two hours) and can get it programmed through your PC in just a few minutes. We had Venom school us on how to install its VCN-2000 Nitrous System on a ’98 Civic sedan, so we’ll show you the same. Off the bottle and totally stock, this typical family car puts down a not-so mind-boggling 88.8 hp on the dyno at Harv’s Performance Center. With the nitrous fully dialed, the max power was greatly blown out with a final 150.2 hp—that’s a 61.4hp increase!

  • 1998 Honda Civic RPM Signal
    4. You’ll have to find a signal that controls engine rpm input. You can find this signal from a few sources: ignition coil, tachometer lead, or DIS module (if equipped). Venom used a tachometer lead located back toward the driver-side firewall on a wiring harness that leads to the instrument panel.

  • 1998 Honda Civic Valve Assembly
    5. The Venom valve assembly should be mounted within 2.5 feet of the nitrous entry point into the engine. The nitrous will be injected into the engine in the air intake just before the throttle body. You can mount it conveniently on the passenger-side shock tower. Connect the power and ground wires of the valve assembly to the battery, and connect the four-terminal connector of the main harness to the valve assembly.

  • 1998 Honda Civic Injectors
    6. This kit also provides additional fuel to the mix by supporting the addition of nitrous through the existing injectors. This is done by pulsing the injectors with the Voltage Supply connections. Make sure this step is done correctly, as incorrect installation can result in engine damage and/or misguided operation. Venom recommends that the electrical connections involved with the injectors are tested with a digital volt/ohm meter.

The valve outlet should be pointed downward, toward the floor of the trunk.
